Alicia Silva, MSPT, RYT
Alicia earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies from Boston University in 1996, and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1998. She worked as an inpatient physical therapist at university teaching hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI and Boston, MA before transitioning to outpatient therapy. At that time, she began to treat various orthopedic injuries, with a large emphasis on education for both recovery and injury prevention. She developed an interest in the women’s health field as she worked with pre-natal and post partum women, peri-menopausal women, and osteoporotic women. After the birth of her first child in 2002, she founded Expect Fitness with the goal of educating women about techniques to optimize strength, flexibility, and posture, to prevent pain, and to maximize their quality of life. Her book, Preventing and Managing Back Pain During Pregnancy, was published in 2004. As a yoga practitioner for almost a decade, Alicia wanted to expand her practice in order to help people improve not only their physical health but also their mental and spiritual wellbeing. She is a registered yoga teacher (200 hour level). Alicia currently treats patients part-time and teaches yoga. She recently joined the Medical Advisory Board for Wellness Professionals and blogs educational health information on a regular basis. In addition, she is on the staff of Breathe Joy Yoga's teacher training program. A percentage of all revenue is donated to charity. In 2007, the company contributed to the Pan Mass Challenge, the American Diabetes Association, and the Norwood Food Pantry. |
